It's a new year, I'm glad to be here/It's the first spring - so let's sing.

My friend Jessica (who I met through Sondre Lerche message boards waaaay back in the day, holla) posts a year-end wrap-up every year, and I like to adopt it because I enjoy taking stock of my progress, reminiscing and putting things down so I feel refreshed and ready to move forward. So here we go.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
*Went to Lollapalooza in Chicago - what a blast!
*Saw a show at Madison Square Garden - unforgettable.
*Got my own car, hooraaaay:D
*Held some...ahem...experiments.
*Had articles published in a national magazine.
*Learned some French (Un Garcon mange!)
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you make more for next year?
I tried to find my resolutions from last year, but I couldn't. I'm pretty sure they had to do with learning to love and trust myself, and I definitely made good progress on both counts. I've got all kinds of resolutions for 2011, which I'm dubbing the "Year of the Cat" because I'm going to try to be a little more tuned in to what I want, so I can go for it. Resolutions for '11:
*Get 8 hours of sleep at least 3 times a week.
*Read one book each month.
*Take drum lessons.
*Take yoga classes.
*Continue working on my ED.
*Continue to value myself, to learn to trust myself and speak my mind.
*Dig deep - by my birthday, I want to figure out the basic things I want out of life, and then figure out how to get them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nobody I know personally, but Zack's cousin Torrey did, and her daughter is adorable!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, nope!

5. What countries did you visit?
Just stayed in the states this year. But I did make it back out to NYC (which will always have my heart), plus up to Chicago. Hoping to increase my travels in 2011.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Hmm...I guess I'd really love to be able to find a more secure job. Or maybe just a plan as to what kind of job I want to get.

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
October 10, which is when I met Zack. I might not remember the exact CMJ/Phoenix at MSG dates, but I will NEVER forget that experience, or my first Lolla with Mel.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Hmm...I think becoming generally happier and more confident is pretty huge. Kicking butt at my job, helping craft some really excellent magazine issues has made me very proud. Getting to NYC with not a lotta money was a big deal.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Missing out on Coachella was very, very sad.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully, not this year! My ankle is feeling better all the time.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My MacBook Pro has been a godsend. I have had a blast with my new record player and growing vinyl collection. And then of course, concert tickets, concert tickets, concert tickets.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My dad retired, which was pretty huge.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The American people during the election. Particularly Texans voting Perry back in.

14. Where did most of your money go?
NYC trip, music, music, music.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Phoenix at MSG with Daft Punk HOLY CRAAAAP!!! And Bright Eyes coming out with a new record in 2011. And Arcade Fire. And LCD Soundsystem. And...(seeing a trend?)

16. What songs will always remind you of 2010?
*LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change, Home, Dance Yrself Clean
*Arcade Fire - all of The Suburbs
*Vampire Weekend - Horchata
*The Bright Light Social Hour - Back and Forth
*The Black and White Years - Up!
*The Tallest Man on Earth - Graceland (cover)
*Phoenix - Rome, Rally, Lisztomania
*The Pixies - Debaser, Here Comes Your Man
*Yeasayer - Grizelda, Red Cave, Ambling Alp, O.N.E., Madder Red
*Sarah Jaffe - Before You Go
*Spoon - Black Like Me, Trouble Comes Running
*The Drums - Let's Go Surfing
*Jonsi - Tornado, Grow Till Tall, Sinking Friendships
*The Black Keys - Everlasting Light, Next Girl, Tighten Up, She's Long Gone

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier
b) thinner or fatter? The same, I think! Maybe a little thinner now that my ankle's healed and I can run again.
c) richer or poorer? Poorer, as if that were possible:P

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I'd gone swimming - that's GOT to happen in 2011. Wish I'd been able to travel more, too.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I wish I'd stressed and agonized less, especially about stuff that wasn't in my control.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it with my three favorite men in the world in San Antonio. It was awesome.

22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
Yes:)

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.

24. What were your favorite TV programs?
Parenthood, White Collar, 30 Rock, Six Feet Under

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope!

26. What was the best book you read?
The Scott Pilgrim series

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ooooh...I'd go with the Drums, I think. But I also finally REALLY fell in love with Arcade Fire, and that was huge. A game-changer.

28. What did you want and get?
A wonderful relationship. A trip to NYC to see one of my all-time favorite bands at MSG. Close girl friends.

29. What did you want and not get?
More money (more problems?), a new and more secure job, a position at SPIN.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Exit Through the Gift Shop

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 23 to the tunes of wonderful SXSW bands.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A new/more secure job.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
More hipster all the time.

34. What kept you sane?
Playing guitar, Brittany and Mel, running.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Ira Wolf Tuton, god of Bass. And Conor, per usual.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Hmm...this is a tough one. The Arizona immigrant issues were a big deal, and made me pretty upset.

37. Who did you miss?
My pals from NYC.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Zack T.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010
I guess I finally learned to believe in fate. The things I can't control can sometimes make me the happiest, when they work out the way they are meant to.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year
"I'm so blessed to have spent the time with my family and the friends I love/In my short life, I have met so many people I deeply care for."
